History

The Labrador Retriever originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where early Labs worked alongside fishermen retrieving nets and fish. In the 1800s, the breed was refined in England and later became immensely popular in the United States. Labs require daily exercise, mental stimulation, and space to move. They shed heavily and can be prone to joint issues, so pet insurance is recommended. Not ideal for low-activity households or small apartments without regular outdoor time.
